Herons in the Hallway
Narrow hallways pose a very vexing design problem. They, literally, serve as transitions from one room to another, yet leave little room for making a figurative transition from one space to another.
Even the narrowest tables will get bumped into and, likely, turn into unsightly landings for piled-up mail, car keys, and any other little thing no one feels like putting away in its proper space. A wall of framed family photos looks great in a long hall, until the kids are running through and they come crashing to the ground.
[Customer Name] of [City, State] solved her design dilemma with a wallpaper wall mural spanning the length of the hallway and running from the ceiling down to the chair rail. The mural she chose, Herons and Egrets (from artist Walter A. Weber and licensed through the National Geographic Society), has all of her favorite shades of blue and serves as a great introduction to her country kitchen from the foyer. There was, however, one issue with the original image... the birds were flying the wrong way. Instead of leading to the kitchen, they were leading to the foyer... almost as if they were ushering guests out of the house. The problem was easily solved by printing the mural as a mirror image. The birds are now happily headed north rather than south.
